The Birch Aquarium is hosting monthly events this fall for families to experience Science, Exploration, & Adventure (SEA). The monthly events will focus on current ocean topics with all of the great educational and fun tools the aquarium always has for families to enjoy. There will be hands-on exploration, special activities, and opportunities to interact with the Scripps Oceanography scientists.
The first event will be held Saturday, September 21 from 11 am to 3 pm. The theme is “Diving into the Deep Sea”. This event will educate attendees about the ecology of rare ecosystems and the unusual creatures who live in them – how do they survive? how do they adapt for survival?
On Saturday, October 19th from 11 am to 3 pm, another event will be held called “Snapshots of Scripps Science”. Here you can view the many accomplishments and discoveries of Scripps scientists as well as learning how to use your own camera in underwater and no-flash photography (bring your own photo storage card).
Lastly, “Kelp Kornucopia” is the event for Saturday, November 16 also from 11 am to 3 pm. You will learn all about the ways people and animals depend on this seaweed that is found in our very own La Jolla underwater forests. Watch an interactive Kelp Tank Feeding Show and talk with coastal researchers.
These exciting programs are wonderful for families as well as school groups, scout troops, and other organizations.
The programs are free with your paid admission to the aquarium.
