While I am already missing the lazy days of summer, I have to admit that I am excited for this next season. I love Fall for the smells and tastes of the season – cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, apple, pumpkin. Yum. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Just an hour from San Diego, in Julian, you can get into the season visiting the various orchards and fruit stands in September and October. If you want to pick your own apples, get up there soon before they run out! My kids love to pick their own apples. There are orchards to pick apples as well as orchards to buy apples and pears. You can also get fresh apple cider and delicious pies.
There are so many great things to do with apples, I usually buy a big box of them. I love to make applesauce, apple butter, pie, dumplings, muffins and breads. Not to mention just eating those fresh, juicy apples as they are! Next week I will post my recipe for apple butter. It is so easy and sooo very delicious. Be sure to check back for that.
If you are looking for other activities to do while in Julian, you can visit the Julian Mining Company to pan for gold. Julian has art galleries, carriage rides, and fishing at nearby Lake Cumayaca. There are historic sites to visit and more to keep you entertained for a fun day in Julian. Plan a day soon to head to Julian and get ready for Fall. More information is available here.
