Note: This giveaway is CLOSED.  Congratulations to the gift basket winner, Melissa Badour!

Summer Family Camps at Rancho La Puerta August 2012

If you’re looking for a destination to unwind, unplug and reconnect with yourself and your family this summer, I have the perfect place for you! Just south of San Diego, in Baja California, is a beautiful, wellness resort called Rancho La Puerta. In recent years, they have not done much to appeal to families with young children, but for two weeks in August, that will all change.

During the weeks of August 4-11 and August 11-18, 2012, families (with children age seven and up) are invited to stay for an entire week’s worth of family-friendly, health conscious and soul nurturing activities. Rancho La Puerta offers a scenic, spiritual escape from all the madness of our everyday lives.

Wellness of the mind, body and spirit is nurtured at Rancho La Puerta, via outdoor activities in nature such as swimming and guided hikes, as well as classes in yoga, Pilates, tai chi, dance, and many other traditional strength, stamina, and flexibility disciplines.  The cuisine is semi-vegetarian, featuring an abundance of organic fruits and vegetables, much of it from the resort’s own six-acre organic farm. All meals offer both vegetarian and modified-vegetarian alternatives, as well as gluten-free.

And speaking of meals, children are able to harvest from the abundant summer garden, gather eggs, and learn cooking skills. These skills are sure to pay off once you’re back home and your kids can help you in the kitchen!

I remember a girls scout camp I went to where my Dad- one of the chaperones- saves the day when we realize there are no mugs for hot cocoa and so he just uses the paper cocoa packets as cups. That was some of the richest hot cocoa we’d ever had. He would refill and refill until we used up all the powder. Decadent ingenuity!

My parents never sent me to camp……but boy did we do some serious “camping”. Our favorite places were Lake Tahoe and Pismo state “camp”grounds.

I never went to camp when I was young but my father and I would spend the entire summer traveling to different campgrounds in our camper. My favorite was always visiting Hershey PA!

My favorite summer camp was at a YMCA sleep away camp in Texas. I loved it so much that I became a camp counselor. We hiked, canoed, swam, rode horses, sailed, shot rifles and learned archery. We had arts and crafts, traditional camp games and songs…so much fun that I plan to send my own kids to that very same camp when they are old enough all the way from San Diego to Camp Cullen in Texas!

Wow that sounds delightful. I never went to camp when I was young but I always wanted too!

I loved attending my youth group’s summer camp on the East Coast. As an introvert, I always packed my watercolors and would find a quiet spot by the lake to paint away my free time. I also loved sneaking into the woods with a couple friends to go on a nature hike and explore. To this day, I find my inspiration in the great outdoors.

This would be PERFECT. I’m newly diagnosed with major food allergies, and in desperate search of some amazing new recipes that are allergen-free (one of which IS gluten).

My best camp experience was a private camp for girls only, where we spent the entire week in tents and sleeping bags, sharing our space with spiders and whatever else crept in during the night! We cooked over an open camp-fire, did each other’s hair, and at the end of the week, put on an awesome performance for our families. I still remember it as though it happened yesterday.

Every year growing up, our family camped out at the Oregon coast for a week during the summer. Some of the best (albeit often cold) memories of my childhood.

I’m from Iowa. I always enjoyed going to the north of the state in the summer, where there were endless rolling hill and luscious trees. This was a major break from the corn fields and pigs I was used to seeing, and so it really felt like I was traveling far away from home.
I was in middle school, and for the life of me can’t remember the name of the camp.

I adored going to Girl Scout camp in the summer of my youth. Thanks for the opportunity to win. XO
