Upon moving to the suburbs of Carlsbad a few years back, I was a bit alarmed at the lack of cultural outlets and events. However, now I that I am submersed in the community, I am finding more eclectic things to do with my kiddos. Here are three fun cultural summer camp options to do with your kids:
1) THIS ONE TIME AT BAND CAMP:
This summer, the Museum of Making Music is offering a summer music camp from July 18 – 22. “It combines instrument instruction and group performances for an interactive and educational musical experience for kids ages 9 through 18. Museum staff is partnering with Ed Roscetti – a musician, composer, author and clinician – and his team to introduce campers to elements of rock, blues, hip-hop, funk and world music.
Campers get hands-on instruction on a variety of instruments, including the drumset, hand percussion, electric and upright bass, acoustic and electric guitar, piano and vocals. The ensemble portion of the camp encourages teamwork and communication, giving campers a chance to be part of a band and understand the relationship between rhythm and the human being.”

2) BRING ON THE NOISE, BRING ON THE JAZZ HANDS: The Carlsbad Performing Arts Academy, the dance studio where my kids and I take classes (yes I take Hip Hop; I’m fly like a white gurl) is offering a summer theatrical camp called the Broadway Bound “Triple Threat Training” Musical Intensive camp. The jazz-hand-lovin’ thespian in me is going nuts over this and I’m wishing I was nine years old again!
It is running July 11-22nd from 9-12pm. Ages 6-18yrs. Space is limited so call 760-438-4947 to reserve your spot!
3) IT TAKES A VILLE:
New to the Carlsbad area is a new children’s indoor romp center called KidVille. This summer they are offering a camp that involves gymnastics, arts & crafts, music and much more.
AN EXCLUSIVE OFFER FOR TODAYS MAMA READERS: The Carlsbad Kidville is offering $100 off summer camps, $75 off their first class and 10 extra playspace passes ($100 value). Just mention Mama Mary and Todays Mama when you call to book the camp. Call 760-514-9144 to reserve your spot.
